Post title: PA to the Vicar and Admin Assistant

Employed by The Point Church Board of Trustees
Hours: Part-time (2 days per week/16 hours)
Work base: The Point Church Office (flexible working, from home by arrangement) Last updated March 2018; due for revision March 2019

  1. Vision and strategy statement –
    The Point exists to be a Transforming Presence throughout Mid Sussex. Our key strategic goals are to:

    a. Take mission opportunities throughout Mid Sussexb. Build up the church
    c. Improve communication

  2. Overall responsibilities –
    1. To free the Vicar’s time from organising and administrative tasks so that they

      can spend maximum time on strategic tasks

    2. To aid the smooth running of the church, improve communication both

      within the staff/leadership team and to the wider body of the church

    3. To support the Church Administrator as required
  3. People-links –
    – Report directly to the Vicar, weekly one to one meetings
    – Work closely with the Church Administrator and liaise closely with other staff – Annual Performance Review conducted by the Chair of Trustees and the Vicar – Liaise with staff, especially Church Administrator, the Diocese, Point Trustees,

    Operational Leadership Team, other local churches

  4. Specific responsibilities –
    • Acting as a first point of contact: dealing with correspondence and phone


    • Managing diaries and organising meetings and appointments
    • Organising events – e.g. staff/trustees away days/retreats, church weekend,

      training events, mission events

    • Assisting with projects – e.g. Emmanuel Centre, Willow Way mission

      activities, Burgess Hill northern arc development, office move, etc.

    • Reminding the Vicar of important tasks and deadlines
    • Communication – planning publicity for events and liaising with our designer,

      Mark Steel at Sublime, writing reports, using social media, etc.

    • Assisting with managing database/website – following up with new people
    • Implementing and maintaining procedures/administrative systems (e.g.

      ensuring staff team are using website and ical diaries correctly)

    • Liaising with other organisations, local council, other churches, etc.
    • Filing

      and wider community

    • Please note that there is a genuine occupational requirement that the post

      holder is a committed Christian

  2. Professional qualities –
    • Good oral and written communication skills
    • Organisational skills and the ability to multitask
    • The ability to be proactive and take the initiative
    • IT skills: good knowledge of standard software packages/Social Media/

    database/website etc.

  3. Terms and Conditions –
    • –  Self Employed – Part-time – Hours of work 16 hrs per week (flexible working –

      at least 1 day per week at The Point church office)

    • –  12 – month contract to be reviewed annually
    • –  Pay – £15 per hour (hours to be recorded and monthly invoice for hours

      worked sent to The Point Office)

    • –  Holiday: this is an hourly contract agreement, so does not include paid

      annual leave, but time away should be agreed with The Vicar

    • –  This contract is subject to full DBS check
    • –  Start Date – to be agreed

      General information

      All staff roles at The Point are subject to an enhanced criminal record check with the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS). All staff are subject to Chichester Diocese and The Point Church policies on child protection/safeguarding, health and safety, and data protection. All other terms are per the Diocese of Chichester, except where modified by The Point’s staff handbook and this document in that order.


      The appointment will be made by The Point Trustees, with the agreement of the Bishop of Lewes (official Visitor to The Point Bishop’s Mission Order).
